Replace Verbal With Visual, Show Rather Than Tell
ASD Students have trouble adjusting to new routines, changes in routine, and a breakdown in structure. They like things to be predictable and orderly. When there is a breakdown in the normal routine, when the day is too chaotic, or when the schedule is too full, the ASD student becomes overwhelmed, easily upset or agitated, and may withdraw or have an outburst. There are many sources of stress for the ASD student that are not stressful for the typical student.
