										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Basic behavior management programs attempt to understand and change behavior by using an ABC (antecedent, behavior, consequence) system of analysis.  With that system, behavior problems are analyzed by studying the antecedents (events prior to the target behavior) and consequences (the outcome or what follows the target behavior), and then forming a hypothesis to explain how the target behavior is triggered and what consequences serve to maintain the behavior&#8230;</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Students with emotional and behavioral disabilities are placed in behavior management and therapeutic programs to remediate a wide range of social/emotional deficits. If we were to create an arbitrary scale of functioning that places the typical child with typical social/emotional functioning at the “zero” point, representing “no deficits in need of treatment”, then children placed in behavior management and therapeutic programs would score on the negative side of zero, at -5 on a -5 to +5 scale (on the extreme end of poor functioning, many needs and deficits)&#8230;</p>
