Everyone has stress. Some people have a lot of stress. The size of the stress is not the concern. The concern is with a lack of recovery from stress episodes. Just a persistent worry, for example, can activate a stress response, and that can come way before the stressor even occurs. The most important thing, then, is to focus on how often and how quickly we can recover from a stress response. That’s what resilience is all about, getting the body to reset itself after a stress response and helping it stay longer in a settled state.
